Swan's Antarctica Expeditions

A NEW PRODUCT FOR SWAN HELLENIC

Antarctica is still a land of pioneers. Since the early days when explorers like Capt. Cook and de Gerlache sought a passage through its icy waters, today’s scientific communities still migrate here, staying for months at a time to find answers to the pressing questions on climate change.

Join the adventure ~ Minerva* takes sailing to the region to a new dimension, too. As you would expect, ours is a responsible programme operated under the strict environmental guidelines of IAATO (the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators). An expedition, an adventure and a learning experience without equal, our guides will lead you to islands of rare beauty in the South Atlantic. Depending on your itinerary, you’ll visit the Falklands, South Georgia and the South Shetlands en route to the Antarctic Peninsula itself.

A land without equal ~ Amid spectacular landscapes that range from pristine ice cliffs to volcanic beaches and jagged peaks, we’ll step ashore to admire the wildlife at close quarters – but always at a safe distance so as not to disturb their habitat. From diminutive ‘Rockies’ to stately king penguins, from giant seals camouflaged on the foreshore – or conspicuous on the fast moving shelf ice – to graceful birds like the wandering albatross in the skies above, our expedition leaders will provide an enlightening commentary.

Bespoke arrangements ~ In line with the extraordinary nature of these cruises, from 19 November 2008 through 5 March 2009, you’ll find special arrangements on board Minerva*. You will be led by expedition team with specialist knowledge of operating cruises in Antarctica. Capacity is strictly limited to 199 passengers. With a crew of 146, that’s a privileged ratio that will ensure you’ll want for nothing. Only outside cabins will be available, so you’re guaranteed a great view. There are welcome extras like complimentary parkas and backpacks, all on-board bar drinks included (with the exception of premium brands and champagne), and a post-cruise journal – the perfect memento of what promises to be an astonishing voyage.

An award-winning team ~ Your Antarctic experience is one you’ll cherish and find hard to match. No wonder the readers of Condé Nast Traveller rated Minerva* “the world’s best Antarctica expedition ship” in 2005, with a perfect score for crew and on-board service.

We’ll get you closer ~ Landings will take place by means of Zodiac-style inflatable craft taking you to sheltered inlets. Whether stepping ashore or surveying the coastline for birds, seals and assorted penguins, we will take you to the heart of the action. Be sure to have your camera ready!
