Topkapi, the residence of the Ottoman Sultans until 1868, is a series of pavilions, kitchens, barracks, audience chambers, kiosks and sleeping quarters built around four main courtyards. The Library of Ahmet III houses rich collections of imperial robes, kaftans and uniforms, while the Imperial Treasury is where you can see an overwhelming variety of objets d’art decorated with precious stones, gold and silver, together with the 86 carat Spoonmaker’s diamond. Other exhibits include an excellent collection of Turkish miniature paintings, imperial monograms, calligraphy and illuminations.
