MR JEREMY PATERSON studied at Oxford and was a Craven Research fellow at the British School at Rome, where he carried out research on the ancient wine trade. For nearly forty years he taught ancient history at Newcastle University, where he was also Dean of Arts. He has wide research interests in the ancient world, including Cicero, the Roman emperors, the ancient economy, and Early Christianity. He also chairs the Minimus project which is successfully introducing Latin into primary schools. He has travelled extensively throughout the Mediterranean.
