Your route includes photo stops at the impressive Kvalen and Nos viewpoints, each offering breathtaking panoramas from more than 1,600 feet above sea level. From these lofty vantage points, take in sweeping views of Nordfjord, Norway’s sixth-longest fjord, carved deep into the landscape by ancient glaciers. Continuing along the fjord, your drive turns inland toward the remarkable Hornindal Lake. Known as Europe’s deepest lake at 1,686 feet, Hornindal is also celebrated as the continent’s clearest, thanks to its pure, glacier-free waters. Briksdal Glacier with Trollcars

Begin your excursion in Eid and travel toward the beautiful Briksdal Valley, enjoying stunning views of mountains, green valleys, and the Nordfjord. The route passes the deep waters of Hornindalsvatn before reaching the charming village of Olden, then continues along the turquoise shores of Lake Oldevatn to Briksdal Mountain Inn. Here you will transfer to a quiet, electric troll car, which carries you through the valley and up toward Jostedalsbreen National Park. The 15-minute ride winds past rivers and waterfalls, beginning with a short steep section before leveling out. At the park entrance, leave the troll car and walk the final 500 meters to the viewpoint overlooking the impressive Briksdal Glacier. After admiring the glacier’s dramatic ice and mountain scenery, return to the inn for lunch before heading back to Eid. The return journey follows the scenic Nordfjord, passing through the peaceful villages of Loen and Stryn as your day in glacier country comes to an end. Nordfjord by RIB Boat

Highlights of Trondheim

Discover Trondheim, one of Norway’s oldest and most historically significant cities, founded in 997 by the Viking king Olav Tryggvason. Today, Trondheim is a vibrant community of around 190,000 residents, where ancient heritage blends seamlessly with modern life. From the pier, your tour begins with a drive through the bustling city center, passing the market square and its statue of the city’s Viking founder before arriving at the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral. Built in the 12th century, this Gothic masterpiece is Scandinavia’s largest medieval church and once ranked among Europe’s most important pilgrimage destinations. Just behind the cathedral stands the Archbishop’s Palace, a fortified complex dating from the Middle Ages and former seat of Norway’s Catholic Archbishop until the Reformation in 1537. Trondheim on foot with Nidaros Cathedral

Trondheim was founded in 997 AC and was the first capital of Norway. Presently it is the 3rd largest city in Norway, but it is still where the new kings & queens receive their ceremonial blessing. The city centre is situated by the Trondheimsfjord — around the bends at the mouth of the River Nidelva — and is a blend of old and new. From the pier you will walk to the town center, passing through the pedestrian areas towards Nidaros Cathedral. The Cathedral is built on the gravesite of Norway’s patron Saint — and is therefore the original St. Olav’s Church — an important destination for pilgrims before the reformation. The West Wall is richly ornamented in stone. You continue via the Old City Bridge to Bakklandet. In the Bakklandet area most of the houses are small and built from wood by sailors, fishermen and labourers. The charming surroundings close to the city centre have been recognized by modern people that have restored the buildings and moved in, giving the area a new life including small cafés and shops. Among the curiosities in the area are a special bicycle lift — called Trampe — up the steep Brubakken Hill. Entrance to the Cathedral is included as a visit to enjoy at your leisure, not guided. Continue to the Arctic Cathedral, an architectural icon completed in 1965.
