Home to 1200 King Penguins, Magellanic Penguins and approximately 500 Gentoo Penguins this location is a prime spot to see perfect wildlife. It acts as an idyllic location where three species of penguin can be viewed. Volunteer Point is approximately 2 hours drive from Stanley. The majority of this trip is out of Stanley and is off road, so guests need to be physically capable of taking this journey. On your journey from Stanley, you will see many of the famous battlefield sites and remnants from the 1982 conflict. You will also pass by many unique rock formations, known locally as “stone runs” which are geological formations, rivers of stone. Whilst taking in the beautiful, rugged mountainous landscape, guests will pass rural farms, the driver/guide will give information about the Falkland Islands and our day to day life. Upon arrival, guest will be able to easily determine the location of the colonies through clearly marked paths. The King Penguin colony is located between a white sand beach and a lagoon, which makes for fantastic photographic opportunities. Stroll along the white sand beach and see all three-penguin species together. There are also many other species of birdlife to be seen in this area including Magellanic Snipe, Dark Faced Ground Tyrants, Falkland Pipits and Upland and Ruby Headed Geese. This excursion is an all-round Falkland experience, learn about our history, culture and see our spectacular wildlife. Each passenger will be provided with a packed lunch, water, and an information pack explaining the location and a detailed analysis of typical birds found in the Falklands.
