Embark on a captivating journey to Qeqertarsuaq, nestled on the enchanting Disko Island in Greenland. Begin your day with a leisurely stroll through the picturesque town, taking in the awe-inspiring vistas of towering mountains and pristine waters. Your adventure continues as you step into the rich tapestry of local culture at the town's museum, where you will explore its exhibits and uncover the fascinating history and heritage of this remote island community. Next, venture towards the historic local church, a beacon of faith amidst breathtaking natural beauty. Admire its architectural splendor and delve into the stories etched within its walls, offering a glimpse into the spiritual essence of the island. As your exploration unfolds, meander through the charming streets adorned with colorful houses and feel the pulse of daily life in this remote outpost as you encounter friendly locals and discover hidden gems around every corner. On this tour, a local will bring you to some of his sled dogs, where he will share insights into the sled dog culture. Talking about laws related to Greenlandic sled dogs, dog food in Greenland, the responsibilities of owning sled dogs, and showcase sled dog equipment (almost everything is handmade and homemade). Your host will be eager to answer your questions and share many stories of dog sledding adventures. He will give you an inside peek to the work it takes to put together a successful sled dog team and keep them happy and healthy. Don’t miss getting your picture taken with these beautiful dogs and learning about the oldest form of transportation in the Arctic before saying goodbye to your new pals. Note: Greenlandic dogs are working animals, not pets. For the safety of both guests and host it is very important to follow the instructions of your host

Join a guided hike to Kuannit, a stunning location characterized by its basalt columns and abundant flora. Notably, wild angelica thrives here, a traditional ingredient in Greenlandic cuisine still gathered by locals. Embark on the hike from town, passing landmarks like the supermarket, church, power plant, café, and heliport, offering insights into Qeqertarsuaq's history and local life. Upon leaving the town, approximately 1.2 km into the hike, the landscape transforms, offering panoramic views of Disko Bay, icebergs, birds, and possibly whales. The unique volcanic nature surrounding Qeqertarsuaq sets it apart within Greenland. Note: This hike covers approximately 5 km each way, with a duration of 4-5 hours, depending on the group's pace. Variations in speed may slightly extend or shorten the journey. The route features a gradual ascent with an elevation gain of about 80 m, transitioning from asphalt road to gravel, before leading to a hiking trail. The final stretch to reach the basalt formations requires sure footing due to uneven terrain.

The Open Town program offers a warm and welcoming experience for the entire ship’s community, giving guests a unique opportunity to explore this remote settlement and gain an authentic glimpse into everyday life in rural Greenland. Due to the village’s small size and remote location, the program may vary depending on the season and the day of the visit. During Open Town, guests can stroll through the settlement, visit the local church (when open to visitors), browse and purchase locally made souvenirs, and explore the Greenlandic Art House, where local crafts and artworks are displayed. Please note that activities and access to certain venues may occasionally be adjusted in consideration of local circumstances, such as community events, or the availability of residents in town.

You don’t need to pre-book this activity Nain, the northernmost permanent community in Newfoundland and Labrador, sits on the rugged Labrador coast within the Inuit self‑governed region of Nunatsiavut. Its subarctic landscape of islands, bays, and tundra surrounds a population of about 1,204 residents, the vast majority of whom are Inuit. Founded in 1771 as a Moravian mission, it is one of Canada’s oldest continuous Inuit settlements, shaped by centuries of Indigenous presence, missionary influence, and later resettlement from northern communities such as Hebron and Nutak. Today, Nain serves as the administrative capital of Nunatsiavut, accessible only by air or sea, and remains a cultural hub where the Inuttitut language, coastal traditions, and ties to the Torngat Mountains continue to define community life. During our stay in Nain, you will be welcomed at the pier by a local music group before being escorted to the Moravian Church for a short introduction to life in the community. You will then continue on a community walk led by local residents, ending at the Illusuak Cultural Centre and Museum, where a throat‑singing performance will be held. Those seeking a more active option may join a guided hike across tundra and boreal forest to a scenic viewpoint overlooking the town. Note: the community walk covers approximately 2 km of gentle walking on unpaved streets. The hike option involves 6–8 km on rough terrain, where sure‑footedness and appropriate footwear are essential.

Visit the remarkable ancient settlement founded by Vikings more than 1,000 years ago. Here, at L’Anse aux Meadows, Leif Eriksson, son of Erik the Red, was the first European to set foot on American soil. The Viking originally called his discovery “Vinland,” which many believe translates from Old Norse into “land of meadows.” You will tour this finely restored village with your guide, gaining immeasurable insight into what life was like for the continent’s first Norse explorers. See the sod houses, constructed of soil packed over wooden frames, and see evidence of carpentry and ironsmith workshops. You will also learn about the 1960 discovery of the site by the adventurer Helge Ingstad and his wife, archaeologist Anne Stine Ingstad. Next we visit the recreated Viking village of Norstead to learn more about life in these northern reaches one millennium ago. See the replica of the Viking Knarr Snorri, a boat that sailed from Greenland to here and named for the first European child born in North America. Journey through this rough and ready site in the footsteps of fierce Viking warriors of the past before returning to your ship. Our stop at the Lobster Cove Lighthouse introduces us to the first peoples of North America and the history of the local communities including some famous local shipwrecks. Step inside the century old lighthouse that once served as a beacon to safely guide fishermen and sailing vessels into Bonne Bay. Enjoy a visit to the Bonne Bay Marine Science Centre for some wonderful up-close looks at life in the ocean off Gros Morne. The Historic Jenniex House is a photographers paradise with a magnificient view of Bonne Bay and the Tablelands. Fragrant wild roses in season will awaken your senses. A walkabout the small community of Norris Point allows for some exploration beachside. There are lots of chances to enjoy the scenery - including Gros Morne Mountain - and to learn about the history and geology of our planet together with the fishing culture of Newfoundland and Labrador. Note: This tour includes a 1.5 km leisurely walk on easy terrain.

This excursion is NOT combinable with any other tour in Bonne Bay Depart from the pier and drive to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. Here we introduce you to the first people of North America and the history of the local communities including some famous local shipwrecks. Next we journey to the start of the Western Brook Pond trail. Western Brook Pond fjord in Gros Morne National Park provides a dramatic setting for a geological and scenic boat trip. The land-locked fjord of Western Brook Pond is a rare sight and access involves a 50-60-minute inland hike along a gravel road to the boat dock. The road we travel carries you over the coastal plain which was once located below sea level. Along the way, Parks Canada interpretive panels are dotted throughout the trail. After our 3-kilometre walk to the tour boat dock, we explore the iconic inland glacial lake and marvel at the geological forces that shaped this landscape and our planet. Arriving at the boat launch, we will collect our picnic lunches to enjoy onboard the boat. The Long Range Mountains, the northernmost extent of the Appalachians, is home to plenty of waterfalls and wildlife and contains numerous glacially-carved fjords. One of the most spectacular is the parks largest lake, estern Brook Pond. This 16-kilometre lake with a depth of 165 metres is home to Atlantic Salmon, Brook Trout, and Arctic Char, as well as an unusual colony of cliff nesting gulls. Our 2.0 hour boat tour lets us view this spectacular fjord with cascading waterfalls, billion year-old cliffs, and frequent wildlife sightings. Later in the day, a moose or caribou sighting along the trail as we hike back to our bus (50-60-minutes return hike) may be a highlight. Then we return to Norris Point for tenders to the ship. Note: This tour includes a 3 km walk from the parking lot to the boat launch and back, totaling 6 km on flat, easy terrain.

This excursion is combinable with 00BBWSX003 The North Coast of Gros Morne The rocky feature known as the Tablelands gave Gros Morne National Park its UNESCO World Heritage status. Ancient mountain building periods resulted in a huge chunk of the earth’s mantle being deposited on the earth’s surface. Here according to Poets and Geologists, the earth shows her bones and we are able to wander the earth’s interior. We walk on the Tablelands looking at its unique physical nature and also at the distinctive plants that make this landform home. This is as close as you will ever get to the mantle of the earth…or the surface of Mars. The heavy metals associated with these deep rocks are poison to most life forms and only select hardy plants are found here including some specialized species found nowhere else on earth except on similar landforms. The Discovery Centre highlights the Tablelands together with the other geological and biological highlights of the park. Our visit to the Discovery Centre introduces us to the people, history, landforms and geology of this Internationally famous Canadian park. The centre includes exhibits, a theatre with ongoing presentations, a small gift shop and it features a view of Bonne Bay and a view of Gros Morne, the mountain the park was named after. Note: This tour involves an easy 3-4 km walk, following a boardwalk and sections of gravel path.
